NEPRA has K-Electric liability for electrocution deaths

The National Electricity Regulatory Authority's (NEPRA) research committee has charged K-Electric with 19 out of 35 electrocution cases for a longer-term supply.

According to a note issued by the regulatory authority, the NEPRA authority notified K-Electric of the cause and decided to initiate legal proceedings against the company in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 1997 NEPRA Act.

The decision was taken by the Investigation Commission under Section 27A of the 1997 NEPRA Act from July 29-31 and August 10 and August 12 due to heavy rainfall and disruption of supply.

Responding to the NEPRA report, K-Electric said in a statement that the company would file its response after the show-cause notice was properly reviewed.

The statement said the energy company is taking a number of measures, including breaching security and putting it on the ground. The company also called on authorities to ensure water drainage after rainfall and city flooding.
